A Near Nightmare

Saturday morning D and I went to the Library to
set up my Art Exhibit.
After unpacking all 44 of my pictures we were in for
a surprise...
and when the word "Nightmare" comes
from D I began to worry.

New Art Show

Sorry I've been away from this blog for
too long!
Suddenly I have become very busy...
I am having an
exhibit at the Kennebunk Library
for the month of August!
There's much to do to get ready!

once I get more organized!

New Prints

Inspired by all that is around me, here's a few of
my new prints..."the cat in the window" and the
"magical hummingbird" that I saw on Sunday.

Ellie May just loves the porch this time of year...

Sunday's Breakfast with an Artist

On Sunday I was the Artist for Breakfast which
turned out to be a Mother's Day Brunch at the
Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine.
I had a little display of some of my work in the
lobby.

I brought some prints

and


I had just enough room for my expanded line of blank note cards...
I had separate little baskets for them
for I have so many categories...shells, flowers,
scenes, birds, animals, cats and dogs!


I was able to set up my pet portrait display
on the concierge's desk.

That morning, D had picked lilacs from our garden
and
from where I sat I had a great view of a lovely fairy house
created by an employee of the hotel.

The atmosphere at the Nonantum Resort Hotel
is so friendly, gracious and helpful...
they are located in a beautiful area
of Kennebunkport.

It was nice to spend the first part of Mother's Day there
and after we packed it all up and brought it home,
D and I took a ride to a favorite place...
will link to that soon.

Latest Project

Just wanted to check in.
I've recently been working on my niece's Baby Shower Invitation.
She loves giraffes!

Some Work in Progress for This Year

Sometimes I just have to pause and see where
I'm going! There's so many directions I would
like to follow!

More Company in the Studio

This morning I had company besides
Ellie May to help me paint...

I appreciate all the help I can get!

Catbird!

Tonight it seemed very appropriate that
Ellie May supervised my painting
of a catbird!

Spring Cleaning

Saturday was the first day of spring and since
it was so warm in Maine (which is very unusual)
I was inspired to do some spring cleaning and
began with the porch. I ended up rearranging
things trying to simplify as best I could.
Ellie May was used to having the couch
where the chair now is and looked very puzzled
when she first saw the new look!
Didn't take her long to adjust.

I think our taste of spring may disappear soon
as temperatures are predicted to drop this week
with a slight chance of snow.

My helper and I are working on more
bird paintings today...

Painting Shells with Ellie May

Now that I'm back home, my artist helper
is very attentive!

It was a lovely sunny, mild day...warm enough to
work on the porch with Ellie May.

My little work table was extremely crowded but
we managed to paint some little pictures of shells.

Old and New

Opening a cupboard door in the dining room this
morning I found an old beach rock I had drawn on
with pen and ink from years gone by!
(still in Connecticut)

Here's what I've been working on the past few days.
I simply love birds!
Though we are still in winter, it's feeling a bit like
spring down here.

More Old Art

While rummaging around the basement while visiting
my Dad I came across these 2 old paintings.

The first one I painted when I was 14.
I always have loved Maine!

When my brother (the pianist) was 13 he performed the
Brahms Trio with
Joel (the clarinetist) and Pat (the cellist).
At the time I tried to capture this special performance
with my paints!
I was so happy to be reunited with these paintings and
so thankful they had been saved all these years.

Finding More Old Artwork

Early yesterday morning my Dad was looking
through some big plastic storage containers
filled with miscellaneous things and among
them were these old folded up pieces of
newsprint paper.

Unfolding revealed some drawings I had
made a long long time ago.

A Pencil Drawing from the Past

While visiting my Dad, I've been coming
across some of my old art...
here's a pencil drawing of my youngest
sister when she was about 6 years old.
My how time has flown!

Treasures of the Sea

Today in Connecticut I unwrapped some of
my favorite shells that I brought with me.
Just seeing them reminds me
of the beach...and when I draw and paint them
I can feel the time when I collected them
and smell the salt air.

I discovered some old treasures in my
Dad's basement, that you can see over here!

Works in Progress

While I'm visiting my Dad in Connecticut,
I've been working on my art,
reflections of my love of
Maine, my cats and the birds that
visit our bird feeders.

It's also a nice feeling to be drawing/painting
in the house I grew up in.

In between painting, my Dad and I are doing
some sorting .... you can see what we've been
doing over here.

Painting in Connecticut

I'm visiting my Dad for a while and always bring
all of my art projects and supplies to work on wherever I go.
My Dad loves trains and has several trains set up in
several rooms...I managed to find a little space at the
end of one of the tables to paint...the light from the
window is good here.
I'm helping him with his computer, too, over here!

What's on my Desk

I tend to work on many things at once and
this woodchuck is one of them.
I have a series of photos I took from my window
last summer of this little guy munching greens in our garden.
His fingers were amazing
and he looked like he was enjoying the leaves.
D had to reinforce the garden gate and fence around
vegetable garden to keep these critters out.
It's challenging to outwit them but I must say
I think they are fascinating and cute!

Night time

While working in the studio tonight, my assistant
fell asleep. Time to call it a day!

Many Helpers with the Red Squirrel

So inspired by the red squirrels
who have visited our bird feeders,
I have started a painting to add to
others I have done of these adorable
critters.
( maybe some day to become a book)
I am fortunate to have many art helpers.

Ellie May studies my work and supervises

while
Brody, gets right into it

and offers his paws of approval.

Birds of Winter

I am surrounded by winter birds and wish to
capture their beauty and the soft quiet quality of winter
with my ink and watercolors. A time for reflection.

Finishing Touches

time to put the finishing touches on this commission...

Oh, I think it's finished...am never quite sure!
Time to leave it a take a fresh look a little later.

Some Progress

We're making some progress here on the painting
of Polly. (Polly is Ellie May's daughter
who lives next to the studio in our house)
I thought Ellie May fell asleep on the job
but as you can see below, she's keeping an eye open!

A New Painting

Am still trying out my new paints
and thought I would work on a
painting of Polly. Here it is in
the beginning stage.

I find there's so many things that I would
like to paint that it's hard to choose so I
usually have several going at once.

Will be back with an update later on.

Helper

Here we are at work!
I love having such a companionable helper!

New Paints

I believe one can never have enough paints,
and was excited to receive a set of
watercolors as a Birthday gift.
( some of my paints sets go back 30 years! )
I'm trying them out this morning
and I just love them.

Winter Studio

Last night Ellie May, my artist assistant
cat watched as I made my way to the studio.
It's been such a long time since I have
kept in touch with you through my studio blog.
Very different from June!

We've had about 3 snowfalls in a row but the
sun came back and the path is shoveled.

How about coming down the steps and
come in out of the cold.
It's warm and cozy inside.

Up the stairs now...

I'm working on birds... we saw bluebirds one week ago
on the coast of Maine...very exciting but also very unusual
for this time of year...hope they will be fine.

Oh dear, my devoted helper has decided to sit
